Maroggia’s Mill Cookbook: Leftover Cake Muffins / Il Ricettario del Mulino di Maroggia: Muffins con resti di torta

Leftover Cake Muffins 1

What remains of the cake…what to do with it? Sometimes, even though not very often, a bit of cake may remain uneaten, waiting to be finished and eventually ends drying up. Or in the worst cases, as it happened to me with Antinea’s birthday cake, a part of a layered cake might break effectively becoming unusable. And what about the tops, cut to level perfectly the cake layers? Too much cake to eat, at least for me! I then asked myself what I could do with those poor cake crumbles, but also with the double Gruyère cream I had bought in excess (rather than running out an ingredient I have a tendency of buying too much) and the ridiculous amount of eggs I was given by my aunt, who has now taken the habit of delivering about a dozen every week…high cholesterol anyone? Adverse and hostile as I am to cake pops, an option which seems amongst the most popular when it’s up to use leftover, I thought of using the leftovers to flavour a batch of muffins, a sweet recipe which has been missing for quite a while in my column for the Maroggia’s Mill. In fact my last sweet muffins recipe for Maroggia’s Mill Cookbook has been the one for Beetroot, Orange and White Chocolate Muffins.

Daring Bakers the Surpirse of “failed” Muffins / Daring Bakers, la sorpresa sta nel cannare i muffins!

surprise muffin 1

For the July Daring Baker’s Challenge, Ruth from The Crafts of Mommyhood challenged us to bake a cake. But not just any cake; she asked us to add in a special surprise for our eyes as well as our taste buds!

As many of you well know the 27th of each month a group of enthusiast home bakers challenge themselves on the net through the huge Daring Bakers event, which connects many food bloggers from all around the blogosphere. Is an occasion I really enjoy taking part to, but the past months have been so busy with other projects I have been missing out two challenges already. This month Ruth from the blog The Crafts of Mommyhood threw her gauntlet to us with a very nice and funny theme: Surprise Cakes! I can’t describe the excitment felt when reading July’s instructions, as I can’t describe the feeling of total failure and disappointment that
followed my total failure. So much for trying out a new recipe/technique just on time to post. But I am putting this up anyway, in hope it will help other people to do better than me and, why not, just so you can have a good laugh. After all I am not one of those who hides her failures, am I? Not at all! Continue reading / Continua a leggere…

Maroggia’s Mill Cookbook: Beetroot, Orange and White Chocolate Muffins / Il ricettario del Mulino di Maroggia: Muffin alla barbabietola, arancia e cioccolato bianco

muffin barbabietola 1

Two weeks have passed since the first recipe especially conceived for Maroggia’s Mill flours. Weeks during which flour was consumed a lot, in my search for new recipes. Some have already appeared on the blog and others that are waiting in the “limbo” folder on my desktop. Continue reading / Continua a leggere…

Cake is… all good things come in threes! / Cake é…non c’è due senza tre!

1150263_560636447307004_483083551_nYet another Cake is… Tuesday. Why did I choose Tuesdays to test my Cake is… recipes? Simple as one two three, Wednesdays are Ada (my niece) days. Usually me and my father go and take care of her whilst my sister works and I bring my baked goods, knowing they will be judged with no mercy by both family members. Cake is… forgetting your baking soda??? / Cake è…dimenticarsi il lievito???

IMG_3726.JPG

As previously discussed in my post Cake is… I decided to enroll in a contest launched by Rossella at ma che ti sei mangiato?. I took this occasion to experiment different mixes and flavours for the cake in question, because as you can see in the dedicated post the only clear clues are the basic ingredients and no other instructions to bake this cake are given.
